You will be continually assessed throughout your apprenticeships. Most of the assessment will take place in the workplace, but you will also take some external tests/examinations for key skills and technical certificates. Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set. You will have access to all college resources to help you with your training and you will also have a personal training co-coordinator who will work with you and your employer to help you throughout the courses.
On successful completion of advanced electrical apprenticeships courses you will be a qualified electrician. Which means, you could progress to approved status by attending further technical courses, and/or could also progress in your chosen career at supervisory or management level 4.
During the electrical apprenticeships courses you will learn a whole range of things from using various testing equipment to rewiring a house. You will be given the skills you need to get into the industry and develop your career. Electrical apprenticeships courses are nationally recognized by all trade organizations and have full City and Guilds and E.A.L. accreditation.
A pre-requisite for electrical apprenticeship courses are GCSEs in maths, English and science, however, an employer may waive this requirement on the understanding that the apprentice takes an aptitude test or undertakes further learning as part of the apprenticeship. In order to achieve the required skills, the student must be working for a registered electrical contractor who can offer the full range of electrical experience (i.e. domestic, industrial or commercial).
The typical advanced electrical apprenticeships courses framework is:
Years 1-3 (day release):
The individual will achieve the following:
• A Technical Certificate
• NVQ / SVQ Level 3
• Key skills: Communication
Year 4 (in the workplace), the individual must complete:
• A site-based NVQ Log book at Level 3
• AM2 practical test.
Apprentices are assessed through the use of examinations, practical and theory assignments. Completion of a portfolio of evidence from assessment within the workplace including on site assessment are required to complete the NVQ.
While your technical skills and knowledge develop so will your employability prospects. You will gain valuable experience of electrical activities, working in a variety of environments covering Industrial, Commercial and Domestic Installations. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer. Expect to earn at least £95.00 per week. You may also get help with travel costs but this will depend on your employment status and the terms and conditions of your apprenticeships.
